Designer's journey
The Rhinoceros Beetle MI01 is the third product of ROKR's DIY Mechanic Organism 3D Puzzle Series after the Storm Beetle MI03. Inspired by the real rhinoceros beetle in nature, our designers combined steampunk elements with it to create a highly mechanical aesthetic rhinoceros beetle model while retaining its details, such as the body shape, horn, legs and wings.

Build the ROKR Rhinoceros Beetle MI01
The ROKR Rhinoceros Beetle MI01 transforms 156 individual components into a touch-activated mechanical display model inspired by one of nature’s strongest insects. Its armored horn, layered shell, articulated limbs and industrial base combine natural beetle anatomy with a black, brass and orange steampunk finish. The medium-difficulty build takes approximately three hours and is recommended for builders aged 14 and over.
Touch the activation point on the base and the ROKR Rhinoceros Beetle MI01 begins a programmed flight simulation. A miniature motor reaches up to 1,200 rpm, setting the metal-etched membranous wings into rapid motion. The wings vibrate up to 618 times per minute while the energy indicator flashes, creating movement that can be seen and heard without the model leaving its base.
Inside the ROKR Rhinoceros Beetle MI01, a V-shaped eight-cylinder-inspired mechanism turns the motor’s movement into a visible engineering display. Brass-colored piston rods, linkage-style forelimbs and illuminated internal details make the motion easy to observe. The design is supported by an impact-resistant ABS body, flexible PVC limbs, metal wing elements and leather-covered shell details.
Assembling this mechanical beetle model kit provides a focused, rewarding challenge for puzzle enthusiasts, model builders and collectors. Numbered parts and illustrated instructions guide the construction stage by stage, while the finished mechanisms reveal how the wings, motor and indicator light work together. It is an engaging project for anyone who enjoys mechanical design, insects or interactive desk models.
When complete, the ROKR Rhinoceros Beetle MI01 measures approximately 4.6 × 7.5 × 3.8 inches (11.6 × 19 × 9.6 cm). Its included industrial-style base keeps the moving model secure and makes it ready for a desk, shelf or display cabinet. Operation requires three AAA/LR03/AM4 1.5V batteries, which may not be included because of international shipping restrictions.
